8122!!

Hello! We are the mechanical mustaches! Taft's robotics team. Taft High School is a public high school located in the Norwood Park neighborhood on the northwest side of Chicago Illinois. We started our robotics team in 2020 but due to the pandemic we did not have our first in-person season till 2022!  In 2022 we won 2 competitions and went to worlds in Texas.  Which is crazy due to it being our first in-person year. We are so excited to record and share our accomplishments throughout the future. We look forward to making memories and competing to the best of our abilities while still having fun.

Our team works on 5 different stations. C.A.D, Programming, Fabrication, scouting, and business/media. Our leads from 2022-2023 would love to tell you more!

Fabrication

Fabrication is the assembling and building part of robotics. Our fab subteam works to create specific robot parts including gussets, mdf boards, sized extrusions, and more in house. We use a variety of machinery ranging from circle saws, to mills, and to our laser cutter. After we fabricate and machine our parts, we put them all together. We attach our robot piece by piece using nuts, bolts, wrenches, glues, and more. This is how we arrive at an end piece of a physical, testable, and functioning robot! - Olivia Kapusniak

Programming

Programming is writing both Tele-op code (when the robot is able to move with a controller) as well as Autonomous (when the robot is able to move on its own). We are a team who uses both JAVA and Python (pycharm) to program our robots and mini bots. Through the season we write blueprints for how our code will look like toward the end of the season. With this we are able to program different things over the course of a full season. Altogether through hard work it is a joy being able to see your code work on the robot in the end! -Angie Bill

Scouting

FRC Scouting is the analyzing your team and other robots during competitions. We collect data on other teams that can match nicely with ours to help us during alliance choosing, with the hopes to win. Scouting also plays a big part in strategies throughout competition.

C.A.D

Our team uses computer-aided design (CAD) to help us design our robot on a computer before we manufacture our robot. Using a computer helps us as a team to make parts that are more intricate than simply designing with pen & paper. On our 2022 robot (Monke), we have many mechanisms designed in CAD including our turret & intaking mechanisms. Using CAD allowed us to make these mechanisms, lighter, more efficient, and just better than if we designed them with pen & paper. As a team we manufacture using our laser cutter, 3d printers & assorted hand tools; cad has allowed us to think of efficient ways to build our robot with more flexibility. We can see how certain parts move while using CAD and this has helped us create a functional robot.   -Ajax Bachor

Business/Media

Our business/media team makes sure our name is out to the community. We run fundraisers and social media accounts and this website so that we can be known and connect with other teams and families. We also take the time to capture the memories we make here in robotics. Taking videos and photos of all the  amazing things we do and enjoy, and sharing them with everyone around us. -Jojo Perez
